Westerville, Ohio

Home to one of the top-ranking liberal arts institutions in the country, Otterbein University, Westerville is also known for its vast parklands and 50+ mile trail system.

The Westervelts were attracted to what is now the Westerville area because of the considerable amount of cheap, available land. On January 24, 1816, Matthew and Peter bought 890 acres of land along the eastern bank of Alum Creek for $3,562. By 1818, 4 Westervelt siblings were living in the area.

Ddifferent Ccultures have inhabited the Westerville area for several millennia. Paleo-Indians and their successor cultures inhabited the area between Big Walnut Creek and Alum Creek. The Wyandot were the primary inhabitants by the time Europeans arrived, living along Alum Creek.
