My furnace is blowing cold air — what's wrong?
Cold air usually points to a thermostat setting, a dirty filter restricting airflow, an ignition or pilot problem, or a tripped safety on the furnace. Some you can check yourself; others need a technician. We diagnose the exact cause and tell you what it will take to fix before any work begins.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
It depends on the furnace's age and the repair cost. If a unit is under about 15 years old and the repair is reasonable, repair usually makes sense. Once a furnace is older or a repair approaches a large share of replacement cost, a new high-efficiency unit can be the better value. Ron gives you honest numbers both ways, with no pressure.

Is it worth replacing a 30-year-old furnace?
In most cases, yes. Furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years, so a 30-year-old unit is living on borrowed time. It likely uses far more fuel than a modern 90%+ AFUE furnace, replacement parts get harder to find, and an old heat exchanger can crack and leak carbon monoxide. Have it inspected first; we will show you the repair cost next to the replacement cost so you can decide.
Does a plumber fix a furnace?
Usually not. Furnace diagnosis and repair is HVAC work, so call a licensed HVAC contractor. Some plumbing companies also hold an HVAC license, but many plumbers only handle water lines and gas piping. What is the $5,000 rule in HVAC?
Multiply the age of your system by the repair cost. If the total is more than $5,000, replacing is usually the smarter long-term choice; under $5,000, repairing usually makes sense.
